BaKTI is an organization that focuses on knowledge management of development programs in eastern Indonesia, consisting of 12 provinces in Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and Nusa Tenggara. We work through three main activities: managing multi-stakeholder forum, managing communications media, and managing knowledge exchange meeting.

Our core activities is knowledge exchange about development programs in eastern Indonesia. We promote smart practices that successfully address the development challenges in remote areas in eastern Indonesia to wider audiences who are facing similar challenges and in need for solutions. We also encourage replication of smart practices as we believe that it can improve development efforts in eastern Indonesia.

BaKTI continuously strives to become a reference for matters relating to managing as well as exchanging knowledge in both Eastern and Western regions of Indonesia. To enable BaKTI to reach further afield in 12  Eastern Indonesia provinces, BaKTI works intensely on its mission of exchanging knowledge by  managing knowledge exchange forum: the eastern Indonesia Forum; Eastern Indonesia Researcher network; the Head of Eastern Indonesia Provincial BAPPEDA Forum; and Sahabat BaKTI.  

Through the Eastern Indonesia Researcher Network (JiKTI). This role linking between researchers as the knowledge provider with the development planners and other government agencies that require knowledge products.

In the last ten years, BaKTI consistently manage the Head of Eastern Indonesia Provincial BAPPEDA Forum. This Forum has provided significant inputs during the preparation of RPJMN and other strategic national development programs such as MP3EI (Masterplan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Economic Development).

Through this forums, BaKTI holds various knowledge exchange events including meetings and discussions on smart initiatives developed by local communities, international development partners, and regional governments. Apart from the usual method of discussion, this was also undertaken through discussions that were broadcasted through radio stations and podcast.

BaKTI also carries out activities for sharing knowledge through various knowledge exchange media. BaKTI is managing batukarinfo.com the online portal containing updated information about eastern Indonesia development programs, and monthly magazine BaKTINews which circulated to over 2600 subscribers throughout eastern Indonesia. We also manage knowledge exchange and interactive informal discussion through social media: youtube and facebook page, as well as twitter @infobakti. This work includes disseminate publications about development in eastern Indonesia.

All BaKTI’s activities are based on appreciative inquiries approach that promotes solution exchange through inspiring success stories and lessons learned. We promote smart practices that successfully address the development challenges in remote areas in eastern Indonesia to wider audiences who are facing similar challenges and in need for solutions. We also encourage replication of smart practices as we believe that it can improve development efforts in eastern Indonesia.

We received funding from the AIPD-DFAT Australia and CIDA-DFATD Canada to support the implementation of our core activities: knowledge exchange about development programs in eastern Indonesia.

With support from the AIPD and CIDA for BaKTI, we have managed to strengthen our organization’s capacities and core competencies to manage efficient knowledge exchange among development actors in eastern Indonesia. With greater capacity, we become more confident in following the bidding for the various programs in line with the core competencies and organizational capacity.

In the last five years, BaKTI can determine and execute core development strategies and expand the activities ranging from the district to the national level.  We are known as the sole institution in Eastern Indonesia that focuses on exchange of knowledge. This is evident from the number of requests received by BaKTI to hold presentations of their work methodology.
